Stonehill Taylor
Connie Cocktail Lounge
New York, United States
All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
For a one-of-a-kind bar experience, Stonehill Taylor has transformed a mid-century Lockheed Constellation L-1649A Starliner aircraft into a nostalgic cocktail bar for the TWA Hotel – itself a restoration of architect Eero Saarinen’s famed TWA Flight Center completed in 1962 at New York’s JFK (then Idlewild) Airport. Evoking the glamour of 1960’s air travel, the lounge features design elements that reflect the interiors Stonehill Taylor designed for the hotel’s lobby and guest rooms, putting the perfect final touch on an already world-class destination. Amongst the glamorous interiors, there are moments that pay homage to the industrial and technological achievements that defined the era.
