All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
In 2013, Studio MB was commissioned by the Amiri Diwan of Kuwait to design a new national museum and cultural centre within the shell of the former Al Salam Palace which had been left in ruin following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
The 15,000m2 restored, re-imagined and repurposed palace now delivers 26 exhibition galleries within two immersive visitor experiences to tell the story of this unique building and the 300-year history of Kuwait through its 15 rulers. A suite of temporary exhibition galleries, an underground courtyard with café, shop and education centre, a digital library complex and VIP reception facilities complete the offering.
Studio MB was the lead design team responsible for master planning, interpretive design, exhibition design, interior design, graphic design, creative direction of AV hardware, software and multimedia design and content research.
