Volaris
Ontario, Canada
All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
Enveloped by a lush conservation site, Volaris is designed to reinforce the connection to nature, putting people at ease in order to foster a more communicative, creative and collaborative workplace. Prioritising interaction – something we all have a new-found appreciation for – the designers created ample opportunity for staff to come together spontaneously or formally, with ten meeting rooms, a sunny café, and a variety of customised soft-seating.
The floor-to-ceiling windows and scenery beyond are used as a tool to draw employees into the adjacent breakout zones where organic conversation is most likely to occur. Glass interior walls lend a sense of openness to both the company and the space, and a scattering of eight-foot ficus trees blur the lines between inside and out. The references to nature continue in the material palette, which also focuses on timeless and bespoke features that create a strong sense of community, connection and identity.
