The expat owners of this architecturally designed home returned to New Zealand for their retirement and commissioned Celia Visser Design to renovate their kitchen. They wanted to ensure it would fit with the home’s existing architecture and, as avid cooks, needed a much larger space to comfortably use.
One of the main challenges for this project was that the kitchen’s size and exterior view was restricted by three walls.
Once removed, the kitchen was opened to the adjacent room, allowing the space to double in size, creating a larder and exposing the beautiful harbour views.
Steel doors divide the hallway from the kitchen and living areas, recycled Matai flooring, while cupboards and shelving clad in ‘blued’ steel and native timber seamlessly blend with the home’s architectural industrial features. Marble benchtops add to the organic feel of the home.
The result is incredible transformation to be cherished for years to come.
