Sculptural Modernism
Sydney, Australia
All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
Inspired by the Italian Architect Palladio’s, Villa Rotunda the interior was designed based on perfect symmetry, where a vast domed volume is intersected with a square plan. A monolithic concrete staircase was designed to link the three levels becoming the chalky white thread that unites every view. The Interior sits in an interesting space, straddling somewhere between, its Mediterranean heritage and contemporary Renaissance planning, forming a new Style. One that firmly sits in a modern aesthetic, however directly remembers the proportions of the past. We like to think of the style as Sculptural Modernism.
