Biosphaira is an eco-friendly partnership development between Panaz and blackswan.
The Biosphaira range has been specifically designed by blackswan for ecoTWILL™ by Panaz, the industry first, contract quality, 100% recycled polyester truly sustainable, low carbon footprint basecloth for print which is a fire retardant, durable and eco-friendly for hospitality and workspace contract environments.
Woven with yarns manufactured from recycled plastic, each metre of ecoTWILL™ repurposes dozens of 500ml plastic bottles into a desirable, long-lasting fabric which itself is recyclable at end-of-life.
To fully present the benefits of the fabric, blackswan has developed a range of seven designs, inspired by creatures that are impacted by plastic waste – named Biosphaira. Behind each design is a story of the terrible impact of plastic waste but with an aspirational objective to raise awareness, remove some of the waste and provide beautiful designs.
Kouinos – Inspired by a microscopic image of a penguin feather, developed into a full circular repeating pattern in two beautiful colour ways – black or white – in the colours of the penguins it is inspired by.
Lonii – Inspired by the shell of the sea turtle, this design gives a three-dimensional effect with a manipulation of colour, shape and shape direction that are layered to add complexity and is presented in two colourways.
Ralli – Is inspired by the beautiful and stunning coral on our reefs. This is a fully hand drawn design which entwines colours to shimmer as if seen through the movement of the sea.
Gálos – This design is inspired by fish, specifically the scales of the Parrot Fish which are very distinctive. Unlike traditional fish-scale inspired designs, the geometry is horizontal as it is in nature. Available in two colour ways.
Patrós – The stunning Albatross is the inspiration for this design with its distinctive wing shape against two different sunsets.
