Native Land
Apartment 53 at Holland Park Villas by Studio Ashby
London, United Kingdom
All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
Designed by London-based practice Studio Ashby, Apartment 53 at Native Land’s prestigious Holland Park Villas takes inspiration both from the greenery surrounding the building and west London’s cultural vibrancy. Studio Ashby founder Sophie Ashby drew on her own eclectic tastes – developed through her upbringing in South Africa, London and Devon, and her education in art history and interior design – to create a unique interior that feels customised to the culturally refined tastes of its imagined inhabitant. The apartment is furnished with a curated mix of new objects, antiques and special commissions, including works by emerging and established artists and handcrafted joinery. A rich, organic palette of autumnal colours – greens, reds, oranges – is enhanced by touches of brass and lacquer, with similarly vibrant tones continuing on the terrace in the choice of plants. The result is a design that’s authentic and timeless rather than fashionable and faddish.
