All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
The project is located in Xiamen city and serves as a public space for the community lobby. The space functions as a library and provides community residents with an activity space for reading, dating and communication; enhancing the participation of community residents, so as to improve the quality of life in the community. The designer was inspired by a traditional Chinese garden book – Yuanyuan, which has detailed description of the poetic, far-reaching and endless landscapes, in line with the spiritual pursuit of literati abandoning themselves into nature. The designers translate the scenes in the book into modern space and extracts the important landscape elements – like bamboo, which could bend but not frack. In Chinese culture, it represents a literati style with strength in gentleness.
