Classic Luxury Residential
London, United Kingdom
Roma, Italy
All project descriptions are provided by SBID Awards entrants.
This 19th-century residence in London’s exclusive Holland Park neighbourhood was designed by renowned Scottish architect Richard Norman Shaw and is testimony to the austerity of Victorian architecture. With the building protected for its cultural heritage, the challenge was to preserve the interior structure while delivering a home that exalted excellence in product, production and materials, a home that highlighted architectural detailing and custom work by skilled Italian artisans and artists – all of whom were researched and employed accordingly. The organisation of the spaces spread over six floors – including the luminous volume and the high ceilings, a rare feature in classic London houses – were preserved. The entire restoration, delicately and respectfully managed and completed in one year, resulted in a classic luxury residence, containing within its orbit English and Mediterranean influences. It blends English and contemporary furnishings, antique paintings, textiles, and colours that evoke Mediterranean solarità, or cheerfulness.
