JW Marriott New Delhi

JW Marriott New Delhi Aerocity is located within a new mega hospitality center comprised of 20-30 hotels. The hotel’s public areas are very contemporary and modern. Complemented by a light, subtle color scheme, the public spaces can only be described as tranquil and spa-like. In order to create a sense of place with cultural context, the design team carefully incorporated Indian patterns and motifs into the design. This luxury hotel hosts 550 guestrooms. The same clean lines employed in the public areas are integrated into the guestroom design aesthetic, only they have an additional layer of warmth and explore texture a bit more. The bathrooms were designed to be part of the bedroom, with large corner sliding doors that allow the guest to simultaneously lounge in the tub, watch TV and gaze out the window. In India, there is typically not a great budget to work with, so we made use of local materials to avoid high import taxes. This was perfect, as it allowed us to tap into the large production of cotton and silk, bringing a sense of place to the hotel. The client originally wanted no Indian influence on the appearance of the hotel. From a designers perspective this is wonderful, as it allows us to incorporate modern architectural concepts. Though the client was cautious of anything that looked too Indian, we convinced them to allow hints of Indian motifs to give the guest a sense of place.
