Warm tones of white stucco, natural beiges and marble set the mood for this contemporary Italian restaurant in Seminyak, Bali. Ushers By Design (UBD) designed the minimalist interiors and architecture, weaving throughout elements inspired by the coastal town of Puglia, Italy, the hometown of chef/owner Maurizio Bombini. Seating just 40 guests on the ground and mezzanine levels, MAURI is undeniably intimate. There is an open atrium from floor to ceiling, surrounding a central grand staircase. The Pugliese influence is apparent from the start: the front facade is an homage to the traditional architecture of stucco houses throughout the towns. High above the dining area sits a skylight, a replica of the feature in the famed Castel del Monte castle. The white stucco is accented by nods to coastal living and touches of colour including a ceramic cactus leaf art installation and pendant lamps made from dried chilis.
