Moxy Frankfurt City Center represents the Moxy brand’s next generation. Commissioned by Marrriot to develop Moxy’s new European guestroom brand standards, JOI-Design created the next iteration of the public area, with grown-up edginess befitting bedrooms reinvented for professional digital nomads. Visible pipes and exposed concrete create industrial chic with four zones ranging from quiet to loud so guests and locals can work, eat and socialise accordingly. Niches eliminate a sense of desertion during slow periods, while open-frame dividers, geometric cushions and varied lighting define each zone. Moxy’s signature hot-pink branding is downplayed to elevate the atmosphere. Creating a sense of place are the allusions to the site’s former life as newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau’s headquarters, while an abstract bull sculpture and gigantic stuffed teddy bear are a nod to the nearby stock exchange. A graffiti mural by artist duo Herakut hints at German fairytales with two children playing in bear and bull costumes.
