For locals and visitors alike, Hyde Park holds a unique place in the history of Chicago. Home to the University of Chicago, this historic neighborhood has a rich legacy of intellectual, artistic, and cultural innovation that continues to this day. The developers and designers of the first luxury boutique hotel in Chicago’s South Side in over a generation took inspiration from this unique heritage when creating the 98-room boutique Sophy Hotel. Rooted in the Greek word sophia – meaning wisdom and dedication to excellence through the pursuit of knowledge – Sophy Hotel pays tribute to Hyde Park’s unique legacy and community in its architecture and design. Combining rich materials with classic tailored furnishings, elegant finishes, architectural millwork and an extensive art collection, Stonehill Taylor designed Sophy’s public spaces to achieve an aesthetic distinctly Hyde Park – luxurious-yet-intimate, and reminiscent of the neighborhood’s historic townhouses.
